Acoustic Thursdays: Sam Dowden

Sam Dowden thrills audiences with his stunning guitar skills and melodic pop songs combining a percussive strumming style with his gentle but powerful voice. His debut album ‘Out of The Blue’ was released under an independent label, Rooster Records and is available on iTunes and Amazon. Two tracks from that album, ‘Take it or Leave It’ and ‘Silver Skin’ were included in the DVD of The United Surf Film.

Live performances see Sam calmly walk the line between intricate guitar play and melodic pop in a way few can manage whilst also giving his own spin on classic tune such as ‘Superstition,’ ‘Staying Alive’ and ‘How Deep is Your Love’.

“Guitar led, feel good pop songs which wouldn’t have sounded out of place next to Newton Faulkner or James Morrison.” – Radio Devon’s Kev Hutchings

Acoustic Thursdays: Alex Roberts

To say that Alex has many strings to his bow would be a metaphor forgiven for the fact that it helps to conjure his presence as a musical magician, in which any number of guitars seamlessly pop into set, beautifully played and adored. Almost totemistic, each wood and strings take their part, whether it’s the finger-style acoustic guitar, lap-steel playing, or the Greek Bouzouki, Alex plays with a sincerity borne of years of graft, craft, and a man who seems to straddle multiple time boundaries.

Through years of musical study together with an inimitable, intuitive flair for rhythm and the written word, Alex not only turns life into music, but enables us to see that music provides life with its heartbeat. He urges us to listen.
